Kampala, UGANDA – Day two of the tournament began with another training to prepare for the debate and public speaking rounds of the day. Unlike last year, this year’s UDN has included public speaking as an independent track.
With further training, the debaters were set for the three preliminary debate rounds focusing on motions like, “This house will raise a child to question authority” in the first round. Round two tasked the debaters to consider the country’s support to shift to the hybrid parliamentary system. In the last round of the day, the debaters were tasked to discuss and share their views on whether a country like Uganda should grant state control to future incorporated companies to develop from a third-world country to a first-world country in 40 years. Subsequently, debaters enormously approached these motions without the most knowledgeability.
Similarly, the public speaking track had two rounds; one on a narrative speech and the other on an informative speech. In both rounds, the institutions that participated included Kyambogo University, Uganda Christian University, Makerere Business School, Makerere University, ISBAT University, NTC Unyama, and Mbarara University among others.
The night ended spectacularly in a social game night where the participants of the debate sat down to compete in fun activities of different board and outdoor games.
