Kampala, UGANDA – Day 3 of the University Debate Nationals 2022 featured the last batch of the preliminary rounds, which had debaters and public speakers vying on their final words to make it to the quarter finals. The overall theme of the debate this year is “Uganda at 60: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”

Later on in the evening, the participants decided to wind down with a social night that saw renowned performers like saxophonist Happy Kyazze, musician Noah Infectious, and spoken word poet Isabirye Mitch. Also as a part of the night, the participants themselves took up the stage, with a bunch of them presenting poems, singing songs, and pulling their strokes on the dance floor. A night of fun indeed.

The University Debate Nationals Tournament is a 5-day tournament for students from universities from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania set to run from 25th to 29th November, 2022. This annual tournament is organized by Open Space Center in partnership with the Uganda National NGO Forum, USAID, National Endowment for Democracy, and Crossing Borders, and is currently taking place at the Eureka Place Hotel, Ntinda-Kampala. This is the biggest annual debate gathering that brings together over 200 students from universities from across East Africa to take part in engaging thought-provoking discussions on topical issues in their countries.
